Well, lo and behold... there was a helicopter parked in the parking lot on the other side of the church.
It is a 1959 Sikorsy S-58 helicopter, which the Air Force designated as an H-34 Choctaw. The pilot was from Rhode Island and loved seeing me wearing a New England Patriots hat.
They were lifting large air conditioning unit onto the high roof of the church. Believe is or not, it is more cost efficient to use a helicopter than very large cranes due to the weight and the reach needed to put the units in place. The last picture is of the rotor gear, which is very impressive.
